Wiggle Super Series Sportives
Posted: 31st March 2010 | Source: Wiggle Super Series
With spring in the air and the clocks having recently gone forward, there’s never been a better time to get out on your bike. The surefire way to put in the miles is to enter an event which you know will motivate you to ride – and that’s where the Wiggle Super Series sportives come in.
Brought to you by UK Cycling Events, all 10 road sportives are designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to just “get out and ride”. With two or three different distances on offer at all events and free entry for under 16s, there have already been hundreds of entries from families, recreational riders and competitive cyclists.
The first event of the series is now less than a month away: the New Forest Spring Sportive on April 18th. Wiggle and UK Cycling Events have signed a three-year deal which will see them working together to ensure every rider has a brilliant event experience. With GPS experts Garmin on board as sponsors too, it has just been revealed these sportives will feature course maps, distance challenges and rider pacing.
Martin Barden, of UK Cycling Events, said:
“Riders of the Wiggle Super Series will now have the option of downloading GPS files which, when used with the Virtual Partner feature on Garmin units, will help pace them to achieve their time target. For example, a rider wanting to go for a gold time will be able to download the route in gold format. As they ride, it will tell them if they are ahead or behind the average speed required to hit the gold time.”
The New Forest Spring Sportive features the Epic ride (83 miles) and the Standard (56 miles), both of which take riders through picturesque villages and the stunning scenery of the New Forest National Park. A week later (April 25) it’s time for the Ups and Downs Sportive, near Dorking, which boasts three options: the 101-mile Epic, the 70-mile Standard or the 45-mile Fun route.
If you’re looking for even more of a challenge, check out The Long One, which is a 200km epic on June 26 in Chichester and is believed to be one of the hardest events of its kind in the country. Among the most stunning events is the Jurassic Beast on May 2 in Dorchester which offers riders sublime views of the sea and North Dorset Downs.
Paul Bolwell, of Wiggle, says:
“Our Wiggle Super Series events are going to be superb – they’re all set in awesome venues and, as is always the case with Wiggle, the events are all about every rider enjoying being out on their bike and having a great time.”
Other sponsors include High5 and Eat Natural bars, so riders can rest assured feed stations will be well stocked. There will also be free bike wash facilities and cleaning products - courtesy of sponsors Mobi and Fenwicks - plus mechanical support, chip timing, event photography, toilets, hot drinks and homemade cakes.
