Ryedale Rumble Route Change

A message from organiser Bob Howden

Posted: 3rd July 2009

We've just received confirmation from North Yorkshire Council that major road works are to begin in Bransdale at the end of the month. Locals will know that the stretch of road near to Cockayne has been closed to traffic since the spring following a landslip that caused the road to crack. Cyclists have continued to use the road and we had hoped to be able to do the same. We first heard of the works starting at our Planning Meeting last week and we asked the Council to delay their start given the importance of the event to local tourism and the economy. Unfortunately we've hit two problems with this:

  • A closure order is already in place
  • The timing is geared toward the availability of the specialist piling contractor. So with regret we will have to miss out the Bransdale loop this year as there's no other route through it

We are currently re-configuring that part of the route and for now we are looking at a reduction of just over 10 miles from each of the published routes. We can maybe add a few more twists to the Northern loop to bring the mileage back up but the medium and shorter routes will need to be reduced in length.

With all of this in mind we realise that those who've entered might want to upgrade to the next route if the shorter distance is a problem. If so please contact me on bobhowden@grasscrete.com and we'll make the change for you.

It's important to stress however that you won't miss out on the climbs as Boltby Bank, Blakey Bank and Rosedale Chimney Bank stay in place.

Once we have all the revised details we'll post the changes on the website www.ryedalerumble.co.uk

The Ryedale Rumble takes place on the 9th August and showcases the stunning scenery of the North York Moors and Ryedale in three alternative routes. Entries close for this event on the 31st July and can be made online at www.ryedalerumble.co.uk
