The Wakefield Hospice Sportive: The Dark Peak 2014 on Sunday 21 September offers a challenging day of cycling with many ups and only a few downs!
This grueling challenge was designed by a hospice supporter and avid cyclists to raise funds for a Wakefield Hospice. Featuring some of South and West Yorkshire's best cycling including Holme Moss, one of the toughest climbs in England.
The event offers thee routes; Extreme, Hard and Moderate with entry fees ranging from £15 to £25.
The Extreme Route (rated level 4) takes on Holme Moss, Snake Pass and The Strines - covering highlights of the Tour de France stage two route.
The 48-mile Hard Route (rated 3) takes on Holme Moss before dropping back into Wakefield.
The Moderate Route is 23 miles and is a challenging local course in Wakefield and Barnsley. Although challenging, the route avoids all major roads and is suitable for beginners and younger cyclists.
This sportive in its second year has introduced bike hire with thanks to Raleigh. All the money from bike hire will go directly to the hospice and enables you to snap up bargain bike hire in order to take on this challenge.
Taking part in the challenge you will experience exceptional Yorkshire hospitality - with well-stocked feed stations, a carefully-signed route, chip timing and mechanical back-up are all provided. To top it all off at the end of the day you can relax for free In the Nuffield Health Wakefield Spa!
