Entries are coming in fast for the fourth edition of the Lewis Balyckyi Memorial Rides on Sunday 28 September and organisers are predicting another great event in aid of the trust set up in Lewis' name to benefit talented young riders.

As in 2013, organisers are offering three routes, all consisting of Lewis’ favourite training rides. There is a marshalled family ride consisting of a 16-kilometre flat ride to a cafe stop then the 16-kilometre return.

For the more adventurous there is a 70-kilometre middle-distance undulating ride going through Bleasdale and surrounding countryside, taking in one main climb up the long, gradual ascent of Butt Hill Lane.

The 100-kilometre route, nicknamed the ‘man up’ route by Lewis, takes in climbs over the Trough of Bowland, Waddington Fell and Chaigley, just over 2000-feet of climbing with some stunning scenery.

All the rides start from the Preston Arena where there is ample parking and facilities, where organisers are providing refreshments for all returning riders.

There will also be a tombola with some excellent prizes, such as free hire of a Mini for a weekend courtesy of BMW Bowker.

The cyclist-friendly Cobbled Corner Cafe situated in Chipping will once again provide refreshments again for riders at reduced rates. This has proved very popular in past years as it is located after all the hills and is a natural break point.

All proceeds will go to The Lewis Balyckyi Trust Fund, a registered charity set up in Lewis’ name after he was killed while out on a training ride in 2011. This provides sponsorship for young riders with potential to enable them to train and race at a high level and hopefully gain a place on a pro team.

The event also supports the North West Air Ambulance and works with road safety groups educating drivers and riders on sharing the roads safely.
