Scotland's premier road race event sets off for a summer of racing that is expected to see some of Scotland's top talent battle it out for the overall winner's jersey.

The Scottish Power Renewables SuP6R Six Series starts on Saturday, 5 March in East Lothian and ends in Falkirk on Sunday 7 August, with six races overall giving riders the chance to reach the top spot.

The series operates a points system, with winners from each race announced on the day but sees an overall race winner taken from the final top spot on the standings at the end of the series.

Spectators can be guaranteed some racing action over all six races, as riders reach speeds of up to 60kph and battle out over courses of up to 80 miles. Racing entries are still being taken but with a wealth of talent across Scotland already in the saddle, some top performers are expected to be on the start sheets.

Round One takes place on Saturday 5 March in Gifford, with Round Two of the competition on Sunday 3 April in Rosneath. Round Three takes place in Fife on Sunday 8 May. Ayr hosts Round Four of the race series on Sunday 5 June and Round Five will take place in Glasgow on Saturday 2 July and the last race Round Six takes place in Falkirk on Sunday 7 August.

The races are organised by hard-working volunteer race organisers, who are supported by Scottish Cycling, the governing body for cycle sport in Scotland.

Jackie Davidson, Chief Executive of Scottish Cycling, said: "Cycling has continued to increase in popularity during the past few years thanks to continued medal successes. The 2011 SuP6R Six Series is a great opportunity for riders to take part in this ever growing sporting activity and for spectators to see what top quality road racing can offer audiences. There are some great talents emerging in Scotland and with some high-end sporting events coming our way soon, this will be a good opportunity to get behind Scottish cyclists."

Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, sponsors of the SuP6R Six Series, added: "This is our fourth year of supporting the SuP6R Six Series and we are looking forward to an exciting five months of cycling. We are delighted to support Scottish Cycling and the band of hard-working volunteers who help deliver the series. These races give the David Millar's of the future the chance to test their talent."
