Scottish Cycling proud of selections for GB team

Ten Scottish athletes have been selected on British Cycling development programmes for 2011.

Scottish Cycling has been working closely with British Cycling to support young athletes make the step up to racing at UK and international level since 2006.

This is the largest number of Scottish athletes on British Cycling programmes and is seen as a key pathway for young Scottish athletes to compete for medals on the world stage.

2011 Scottish athletes on British Cycling Programmes are:

Olympic Academy - Kenta Gallacher (MTB), Callum Skinner (Sprint)

Olymic Development - Katy Winton and Grant Ferguson (MTB), John Paul (Sprint)

Olympic Talent - Tom Arnstein (Endurance), Yukka Gallacher (MTB), Cameron Balfour (MTB), Iain Paton (MTB) and Ben Miller (MTB)

Gary Willis, Performance Development Manager, Scottish Cycling, said: "It is extremely encouraging to see a year on year progression of Scottish athletes onto British Cycling programmes. Selection for these programmes is only the beginning and it will take a number of years for these athletes to reach their full potential but with the competition for places being so high these athletes have already proven their ability and commitment to succeed."
