Scottish Cycling Downhill Support

Elite Applications open and new regional programme announced

As Scottish Cycling’s downhill programme matures, we try and learn from each year and see how best to progress. Following five years of targeted youth and then junior and elite support and a lot of success from our riders both home and abroad, we will make some changes for 2013 in order to help both the older World Cup riders in our country while also supporting younger riders through new Regional Performance Groups.

Applications are now open for Elite riders looking to compete at World Cup level with ambitions of top 30 results. Download a form here

At the same time, we would like to formalise three regional groups, East, West and South with aims of hosting 10 – 15 youth and junior riders per regional training day.

There will also be a small number of invitational national junior opportunities made available to riders performing at the top of their regional group and looking at international level competition.

We would like to ask any club coaches or volunteers interested in helping deliver our regional downhill programme alongside our national coach to get in touch with us. It’s a great way to develop your coaching and help grow downhill in Scotland.

We will announce dates and rider applications/ selection criteria for the first round of regional training days very soon. In the mean time, please get in touch with chris.ball@scottishcycling.org.uk if you would to join us in supporting the champions of the future.

Regions:

East – Grampian, Perthshire, Dundee, Angus and Fife

West – Glasgow, Stirling and the Highlands

South – Edinburgh, the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway
