Another busy weekend of racing action with Scottish National Championships taking place in Kinross, while the SCX moved onto Irvine and a number of Scots travelled down to Manchester for the World Masters Track Champs

Scottish National Women’s Road Race Championships

Kinross played host the Scottish National Women’s Road Race Champs on Saturday morning with the hilly 81km route standing between the peloton and the national title.

Eilidh Shaw (Alba Development RT) won the Senior title after crossing the line first in the bunch sprint.

Irvine Beach CX

Round 2 of the Scottish Cyclocross Series took place on the Ayrshire coast on Sunday. Despite the blustery conditions, the dry weather held true and over 350 riders took to the course.

Scottish National MTB champion Lewis Martin (Studio Velo) dominated to claim the victory in the senior men’s race by over three minutes from Richard McDonald (Vanelli-Project GO) in second and Neil Scott (Deeside Thistle) in third.

Jane Barr (Velocity 44 RT) claimed the win in the Women’s race, narrowly beating Grace Inglis (Muckle CC) in the final lap, with Isabel Strathdee in third place.

Innes McDonald (Scotia Offroad RT) and Harriet Hendry (Deeside Thistle CC) claimed the junior wins, with Sian Tovey and Gary MacDonald (Nevis Cycles) the victors in the Veteran 40 race.

In the youth races, Jamie Hall (Pentland Racers) and Daisy Wilkinson (Scotia Offroad RT) were victorious in the Under 16 races. While Olivia Poole (Deeside Thistle) and Guy Rorke took home the U14 victories.

Masters Worlds

Manchester was the venue for the UCI World Masters Track Championships with a number of Scots making the short journey down the M6 to the National Cycling Centre to compete for age group honours.

The team from VC Astar Anderside claimed an exceptional gold in the Women’s Team Pursuit 45-49 age group, with Scottish representation in the Team pursuit podiums. Liz Wisdish claimed a silver in the behind the Scottish quartet, while Louise Haston claimed a silver in the 35-39 Team Pursuit. In the men’s, Graham Barclay was part of the GB outfit that claimed silver in the 65+ Team Pursuit.

Saturday saw some of the individual pursuit events with Alison Winship claiming silver in the Women’s 50-54 and Carol Scott a bronze in the 55-59 age category.
