We can now reveal the final dates of the Scottish road season, including dates for Scottish National Championships events.

After what we hope will be an enthralling August with the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, the last few weeks of road action will be jam-packed with National Championships action.

Discovery Junior Cycling Club will host the National Circuit Championships at Fife Cycle Park on Saturday 9th September with Youth, Junior and Senior titles up for grabs.

A day later, Spokes RT will host the Senior Male Road Race Championships in Alford, utilising a new course with combines elements of the Glax and Suie routes that have become well-known to riders in the Scottish peloton. David Duggan (Wheelbase-CabTech Castelli) claimed the National title in 2021, when the Senior Male Road Race was last held in Alford.

The following weekend will see back-to-back Championships with Alford and Spokes RT playing host to the Junior Male Road Race on Saturday 16th September, with support races for second through fourth category riders also taking place.

An organising committee has taken on the task of organising the Senior and Junior Female Road Race Championships, and they will take place on Sunday 17th September, utilising the Kinross course, which hasn’t been used for a women’s-only race for at least a decade.

Beth Harley-Jepson (Jadan Vive-le-velo p/b Glasdon) won the senior title in 2022 in Balfron after winning from a sprint to take the jersey.

A support event, an APR for Men and fourth category women is also set to place on the same day in Kinross.

Glasgow Ivy’s Auld Yins Road Race will play host to the Scottish National Veteran Male Road Race Championships on Sunday 27th August, which will take place in Balfron.

We are currently in the evaluating options for the Veteran Female Road Race, if any interested organisers or volunteers would like to contact our events team – events@scottishcycling.org.uk

We are also set to see the welcome return of the Falling Leaves Stage Race in Ballater with Velocita Coaching RT organising the two-day race, which will take place on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd September and will be ran as a Regional A event.

After this weekend’s Galloway Hillbillies race, which is the Scotia Series finale and penultimate round of the Alba Series, the Alba Series finale will be the rescheduled Drummond Trophy, which will take place on Sunday 8th October in Strathaven – which will draw a curtain on the road racing calendar in Scotland for 2023.

We will also see some Friday night lights - as West Lothian Cycle Circuit will play host to a number of Criteriums in August and September. Plus Elgin CC will host an event at Grampian Kart Track as part of their Power Of The Bike Week, to build on the 2023 UCI Cycling Worlds taking place next month.

While Ellon Town Centre will be the venue for the annual Ellon Youth Crit which is the final round in the Youth Circuit Series.

Closed Circuit races can act as a great introduction into racing for newer riders as well as be a great place to develop your racing skills. Criteriums (also known as Crits) are usually shorter in length than road races, and tend to last between 30 and 60 minutes.
