A month into the Race The World series, we thought it was about time to round-up all the events so far.

Race The Worlds features regional qualification races across the country, with qualifiers going on to earn a place to race at the Race the Worlds Finals taking place during this summer’s 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

Pump Track

Kennoway (North East)

Kennoway in Fife saw the first of the Race The Worlds Pump track series rounds and it did not disappoint. With the support of Gavin Harrower from the Kennoway pump track, there was an incredible atmosphere showcasing some promising young talent and giving them their first taste of racing. Feedback from the event gave an overwhelming positive response and has even encouraged new racers to take part in the full series.

Hawick (East and Central)

The East and Central qualifier, hosted by Hawick Urban Bikers, took place on Saturday 20th May, preceding the UK’s qualifier for the UCI Pumptrack World Championships in Argentina later this year. The event was bouncing with excitement at the world level facility and led to some electric racing, and how better to round off the event than having podiums presented by top Scottish riders, Corey Watson, William Brodie and Phoebe Gale followed by a chance to watch the world level athletes practising to win themselves a place at the UCI World Champs.

Bellshill (West & South West)

It was a beautiful sunny day in Bellshill on Sunday, as we were treated to some excellent pump track racing as part of the Strathclyde Cycle Festival. Riders took on the course in reverse to add to the challenge and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of smiling in the sunshine made this a great fun event!

Road Crit

Grampian Kart Track

Banff was the venue for the first qualifying event of the Race The Worlds series, with the first-ever crit at the Grampian Kart track in northern Aberdeenshire.

Oliver Bain (Deeside Thistle) won out in the Youth A boys and claimed his spot in the final in August, with Charlotte-Rose Burton winning out in the Youth A girls. Other race winners were Finlay Hanton, Zara Main, Emily Moran and Calum Atkinson.

There was some great racing at a brilliant new location for Crit racing in the North, a massive thank you to Lorna Breetske of Elgin CC for putting on a great race.

XC Dirt Crit

Callendar Estate

The first of our Dirt Crit qualifying events started last weekend at Callendar Estate in Falkirk with the FJBC Dirt Crit Round 2 for an East and Central Qualifier.

125 riders took to the start last Friday, its great to see a large number of riders involved in the first Dirt Crit qualifier of the series. The course featured some tough climbs and technical riding which led to some brilliant racing in all categories where there were some great battles around the course.

Mini-DH

Newcastleton

Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders kicked off the mini-DH strand of Race The Worlds with an amazing new venue at Rock UK. Lee Musson and his team put in an incredible shift in the leadup to the event scratching in new sections of trail to create a true mini-DH race which served as an excellent first race for many riders, and even attracted a large contingent of competitors from south of the border.

Ae Forest

The brand-new committee from Ae Bike Association came together in the leadup to the mini-DH and hosted an incredible event. The team combined their experiences to successfully run their first ever competitive cycling event. The race attracted 70 entrants from the West and South-West regions of Scotland creating an amazing atmosphere and some exciting racing on the challenging course designed by Callum McCubben.
