Kathy Gilchrist has been named the new Scottish Cycling President as part of proceedings at the organisations Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Stirling Court Hotel on Saturday 27th November 2021.
With the organisation led by CEO Nick Rennie, who took up post in May this year, as well as Chair Martin Cooke, the President sits on the board of non-executive directors and will act as a figurehead for cycle sport in Scotland.
Kathy, who has previously acted as Scottish Cycling Chair between 2016-19, also sits on the British Cycling board, chairing their Integrity Committee, as well as sitting on the sport advisory group ahead of the 2023 UCI World Championships.
Gilchrist also becomes the organisations first female President, and brings a great breadth of experience. Whilst not directly driving forward business matters, Kathy does have a fantastic understanding of the sport, her background including paid roles with the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Organising Committees, as well as managing the Alkek Velodrome in her native Texas, USA. This latter role saw her create a junior team, with a holistic approach to development, whilst she was also a founding member of the National Collegiate Cycling Association.
Speaking of the honour of taking up the role, Kathy said:
“It is an absolute honour to take up this role, especially as someone who has great passion for the sport. I see my role as listening to the community and trying to represent them with passion. From my previous experience I feel I speak the language of mountain bikers, track rides, road riders, event organisers, commissaries and so on, so I look forward to meeting and listening to all areas of our fantastic cycling community. I also want to help celebrate the great success that Scottish Cycling is having and help to tell that story.”
Scottish Cycling would also like to express its gratitude to Tom Bishop, outgoing President, who was a brilliant figurehead during his three year term, pulling the community together during one of the most challenging periods in recent memory.
