Fin Graham capped a phenomenal Paralympic debut by doubling his medal tally in his final event of the Games.
Having already won a stunning silver medal in the Individual Pursuit on the track, the Strathpeffer man switched his focus, narrowly missing out on more silverware in the Time Trial on Tuesday morning.
Gutted to miss out on a medal in that one, Graham was fired up to end his maiden Games on a high in the Road Race on Thursday morning, and that he did.
Three laps in, amidst a rain shower of monumental proportions, the lead group really began to whittle down, the climb on the Fuji International Speedway circuit taking it’s toll, leaving less than 10 riders to battle for silverware.
The trio of Brits in that group controlled proceedings, racing extremely well as a unit, Benjamin Watson making a lone attack stick to solo to the Paralympic title. From there Graham played the role of teammate superbly, neutralising attacks before he himself escaped the bunch to come home in second place.
Fin, who was left in tears after missing a medal by just two seconds in the time trial, was all smiles after securing his second silver here, and reflected afterwards:
"With three of us in the race we knew we could control it and the goal was just for one of us to get the win, there was no specific person we had in mind.
"Ben got away and we let the gap grow and then I just gave it a bit of a go at the end - he was far too strong to catch. We're gutted to miss the 1-2-3 but gold and silver is pretty nice.
"Paris is just three years away and we build towards that straightaway. Being in this amazing squad just drives you to do the same, it really helps with motivation.”
The final Scottish Cycling representation in these Paralympic Games comes courtesy of Sophie Unwin and her pilot Jenny Holl who will compete in the 92km Women's B Road Race which starts tomorrow morning at 5am.
