Scottish Cycling is delighted to announce the shortlist and winner of the 2020 Scottish Cycling Coach of the Year Award supported by Digby Brown LLP.
The Scottish Cycling Coach of the Year Award is awarded to a coach who has made a significant impact to the development or performance of a rider(s).
Nominees for this award should exemplify the following criteria:
- Has adopted an athlete-centred approach to coaching
- Has made a significant impact to the development or performance of a rider(s)
- Has created an appropriate and effective environment to develop the rider(s) towards their goals.
- Has demonstrated innovative practice in their coaching
- Has adapted their coaching throughout 2020 to engage riders in different ways to support them through the Coronavirus pandemic
Coach of the Year Nominations
Chris Bryant
Chris Bryant should be recognised for his long standing dedication to coaching and children’s coaching. Chris utilises his experience and knowledge to create positive environments for children. The quality of Chris’s coaching shines through when you realise he is developing the whole child and not just their cycling skills. He is an asset to his club and the sport.

Kev Welsh
Kev Welsh is one of those local heroes who is able to inspire people with his passion and enthusiasm. A slightly mystical figure Kev is becoming the stuff of legend down the Borders of Scotland. Twice now in the shortlist for Coach of the Year, the power of the bike is strong in this one.
