Scottish Cycling Employee Furlough Statement

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on all of our lives and on sport in Scotland. As a result, Scottish Cycling now faces tough challenges in terms of safeguarding the future of cycle sport, supporting our members and protecting staff jobs.

Scottish Cycling have therefore taken the difficult decision to make use of the UK Government's Job Retention Scheme that will allow us to retain our full workforce but furlough a number of staff and utilise the governments financial support whilst it is available.

Chief Executive of Scottish Cycling, Craig Burn said:

“The last few weeks have been challenging for everyone and I’d like to thank the team for adapting to these unforeseen circumstances.  As the national governing body for cycling in Scotland, we announced the suspension of all sanctioned activity, including all events which has had a significant impact on our finances and staff activity.

We have been working with British and Welsh Cycling to progress more detailed financial modelling as it relates to the potential impact of the COVID-19 situation. We would also like to thank our many stakeholders, including sportscotland, for their continued support and flexibility during this period.

In order to be in as strong a position as possible when events and programmes resume, we are now required to identify savings that will help protect our sport and our people, whilst continuing to respond to the needs of our clubs and members.

The decision to furlough has been a difficult one and we will endeavour to support our staff throughout this process.

Our staff continue to work remotely and updated contact information is available below.

It has also been fantastic to see the innovation and encouragement across social media from our cycling community. It is really important that you continue to stay positive and active whilst following government guidelines. Please keep up the great work and continue to share through your social media.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members who are key workers, delivering frontline services for the benefit of us all. Heartfelt thanks for your dedication and resilience during these difficult times.”
