Apeldoorn | Wednesday 16th October - Sunday 20th October
The Great Britain Cycling Team headed to Apedoorn, the Netherlands for the European Track Championships. Scottish riders Neah Evans, Katie Archibald and Jack Carlin were riding and in good form. On Wednesday, Scotland's Jack Carlin took silver in the team pursuit alongside Jason Kenny and Ryan Owens in what was a fantastic demonstration of strength and teamwork. On Thursday, the women's team pursuit quartet containing Katie Archibald and Neah Evans retained their European title, taking gold in a time of 4:13.828 against Germany.
Evans said: "We're delighted to retain our team pursuit title. It's always a pleasure to race with the girls, and I'm really excited for the season ahead."
In the individual pursuit, Scottish favourite Katie Archibald posted a time of 3:31.602 to win the bronze medal in a close race against Ireland’s Kelly Murphy. Germany took the top two spots of the podium, with Franziska Brausse winning gold and team mate Lisa Brennauer winning silver. Great Britain’s Elinor Barker finished in seventh place.
Archibald said: “The exhaustion of racing always makes my head go funny. I’m proud of my bronze medal but the only thing I can think clearly about is how excited I am for the Madison on Sunday.”
Archibald finished off the weekend with a silver medal on Sunday when she was joined by Laura Trott for the 120 lap madison race.
Great Britain end the event with a total of nine medals (two gold, four silver and three bronze) and now move on to the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup series, the second round of which takes place in Glasgow from November 8-10.
