British Cycling has today announced the eleven cross country mountain bikers who will travel to Mont-Saint-Anne in Canada to compete at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships which take place from 28th August – 1st September.

Among the line up are five Scottish riders who are seeking to make their mark within a field of world class competitors. With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on the horizon, these world championships are in important opportunity for riders to gain qualification points.

Grant Ferguson will represent Great Britain in the elite men’s category and Isla Short will ride in the elite women. Both riders have excelled this season and will be looking to cement this at the world championships. Riders will tackle extremely technical uphill and downhill sections of the Olympic-grade course in Canada as they race around a loop up to 7 times. The elite women will aim to finish in around 1 hour and 30 minutes while the men will be racing for closer to 1:45.

Sean Flynn will ride in the under-23 men at this world championships. Sean has shown great progression in his training and competition throughout the season, these world championships are an opportunity to build on this and see where he stands against the best in the world. Chalrie Aldridge will compete in the junior men and will be keen for a good result following his wins at the UCI junior mountain bike series. Equally, Anna McGorum will be looking to impress in the junior women.

Ahead of the event Scottish Cycling Mountain Bike Coach Paul Newnham commented;

"Having five Scottish riders in a range of categories selected to ride the world championships highlights the strength and depth of mountain biking talent coming out of Scotland at the moment. These riders have worked incredibly hard and I look forward to seeing them progress and achieve their goals on the world stage."
