A week after becoming the first British male to win a UCI Mountain Bike Junior Series event on foreign soil in Albstadt, the Scot demonstrated his strength to repeat the trick in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

Charlie attacked with just over a lap to go and quickly opened up a lead – riding solo round the final lap to take the win in a time of 1:04.44.

There were also an outstanding performance in the men's U23 cross-country World Cup race in Nove Mesto from Sean Flynn. Sean passed almost 100 riders from his start position of 120th – moving forward all race long to finish 23rd, only 3mins34s behind the victorious Vlad Dascalu of Romania.

“I felt really good,” admitted Sean. “It’s a great feeling moving forward like that. Passing people with single digit numbers when mine has three figures is good for morale.”

And in the women’s Junior World Series race, Anna McGorum was the highest-placed Brit in 19th as she ended 7:18 behind Norway’s Helene Marie Fosseholm who took victory in 1:02.43.

Isla Short believes there’s plenty more to come after she continued her strong start to the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup season in the Czech Republic with yet another top-25 finish.

The 22-year-old backed up her 22nd-place world cup debut last weekend with an improved 15th in the elite women’s competition at Nove Mesto.

“The past two weeks have been mad,” she said after the race.

“I knew I had the potential to mix it up in the world cups, but a lot of things have to fall into place for that to happen and I didn’t expect to perform so soon.

“It gives me huge confidence that I can be at the front in time.”

The result sees Short claim 76 points towards the overall rankings, adding to the 62 she won in Germany to leave her sitting 56th in the general classification.

Let's Ride Pop Up

Bellahouston Park, Glasgow

Sunday 26th May

The first Let’s Ride Pop Up of 2019 took place at Bellahouston Park on Sunday, 12-2pm. Despite a fairly gloomy and windy day, there were 38 participants, 17 of which had signed up online beforehand.

Our two Go Ride coaches were on hand to coach little ones around a skills track. Bikes were available to borrow for older children and adults, with a choice of BMX and mountain bikes on offer. Breeze was represented by Mel, Scottish Cycling Participation Programmes Officer, and Lara, an active Breeze Champion in Glasgow. Robbie from Glasgow Life popped by in support. There were plenty of leaflets to promote Breeze, Guided Rides and Ride Social. The event was organised by event manager Bill Hodgson.

Pop along to the next one, same time, same place, on Sunday 30th June.
