A last minute change of course saw this event switch from Freuchie in Fife, to Monikie Country Park, Dundee.  The course itself started at the Ethiebeaton Park roundabout, heading east on the A92 dual carriageway, before looping back at the Muirdrum overpass.  The weather was dry for all the riders, albeit overcast for most of the time.  The official temperature was 8°C although it felt decidedly colder for the riders.  A headwind on the return leg meant riders had to dig in to maintain their pace.

The first of the Senior Men riders, were away at 08:11 in seeded runs, the faster riders going last.  The Senior Men had quite a mixture of abilities, with some first timers as well as seasoned Time Trialists.  Some riders may have felt they could have put in more effort on the first leg, misjudging the strength of the headwind on the way home, and this hurt a few riders who probably felt they should have finished with a better time. In the end though, the wind didn’t have any great effect on the top finishers.

Last year’s winner, Liam Beaty had to settle for 4th place this time round with a time of 0:20:30.  RT23’s Kyle Gordon came into the event hoping to break the course, and perhaps,  national record.  Gordon, already the holder of the Scottish 50-mile and 100-mile TT records, wasn’t quite able to break the national record currently held by Jason McIntyre, however, his time of 0:20:09, was good enough to seal victory, and the title.  He was followed home by the Bioracer-Moriarty Bikes duo of Jamie Davidson in 0:20:16 and David Griffiths in 0:20:27, who claimed 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Pictured above, Kyle Gordon was once again presented with the Stuart Turvey Memorial Trophy, by Stuart's father, as the overall winner of the event.

Senior Women saw a battle between the winner from the last 3 years, Neah Evans from Team HUUB, Victoria Smith riding for Aerocoach, and RT23’s Catriona MacGillivray.  Smith and MacGillivray were riding on the back of a 1-2 finish at the recent Tour of the Meldons, but Evans wasn’t going to give up her title without a struggle.  Smith had smashed the course record at Meldons, and was hotly tipped to do the same here.  When the times came in, there was a new Scottish Champion in the Senior Women.  Neah Evans had to settle for 3rd place on the day with a time of 0:23:11.  Catriona MacGillivray came home in second with a time of 0:22:52, but Smith smashed it with a time of 0:21:47 to notch up another win and claim the title with a female course record.

There were no Junior Women for this event, so the final Championship Category was Junior Men.The Junior Men had real depth in quality, every rider putting in a great performance.

Scottish Cycling Regional Development Officer, Martin Harris is presented with a gift from time trial stalwart Mhairi Laffolley, ahead of his departure from Scottish Cycling.

The podium was a clean sweep for Spokes Racing Team, with 3rd place going to Aaron King with a time of 0:22:19 (26th overall), 2nd place went to Logan Mclean with 0:22:16 (24th overall).  The title was claimed in convincing fashion by Oscar Onley who bettered his team-mates by over a minute with a time of 0:21:13 which was good enough for 10th place overall.  The boys also set a new Scottish team record for Junior Men!

Thanks to Eddie Addis, RT23, the marshals and all the volunteers for delivering an exciting, well run event.
