It was a busy weekend for Scottish Cycling with training, National Championships and Awards Ceremonies all taking place. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved this weekend, in particular our amazing volunteers who make events like the Track Championships possible.

West Awards Night

On Friday evening, 150 riders and their parents gathered at the Maryhill Burgh Halls to celebrate the top riders from the Road Crit and Dirt Crit Series in 2018. Everyone was in fine spirits and enjoyed celebrating the success of the Wests young riders while hearing Rab Wardel and Jonathan Mitchell talk about thier passion for bike racing.

Rab Wardel said, “It was a pleasure to be a guest speaker and to present the prizes for Scottish Cycling West Dirt Crit Series this evening. It's awesome to see the Bella Crits and Dirt Crits still going nearly 10 years since they started! I can't wait to see what the next step is!”

Event Organiser Training

On Saturday Scottish Cycling ran an Event Organiser training workshop at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. The purpose of the training, which was open to both new and existing organisers from all disciplines, was to support organisers in arranging an event from inception through to race today and post event. Subjects covered included calendar compilation, online event registration, risk assessments and lots more. It also provided a brilliant opportunity for networking with like-minded organisers from across Scotland.

The training was a great success with participants coming away with valuable knowledge to enable to them to deliver top quality events.

All relevant and very informative, the interactive elements were very helpful

“Fabulous location, good practical tasks and clear and articulate information delivery”

Great and very thorough course covering all elements of event organization

The next opportunity for Event Organisers to learn with be the Event Manager and Commissaire Conference which forms part of the Scottish Cycling Conference Weekend, 9 – 10 March 2019.

Participation Roadshow

Sunday saw the British Cycling Roadshow for Ride Leaders, Breeze Champions and Let’s Ride Pop Up Volunteers come to town. The purpose of this event was to bring people together who have a shared passion for getting others riding and helping transform Britain into a great cycling nation.

Participants got to meet other volunteers, share best practice, and gain a qualification from Coaching UK in Behaviour Change Tactics.

The workshop provided lots of opportunities for discussion and learning, with the added bonus of getting to watch some racing at the Scottish National Senior Track Championships.

“Excellent conference for all Ride Leaders and Breeze Champions, an update on the programs this year and some coaching on behavioural change techniques to help us help our ride participants”.
