Team Scotland’s riders rode the “race of truth” at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games today.
Spectators had perfect viewing conditions on the clockwise lap of 37.8km (men) and 24.5km (women) along the Currumbin Beachfront. John Archibald, Scottish time trial record-holder and track silver medallist crashed early on, but quickly got going again to secure 11th place. Kyle Gordon managed a top 30 finish in his debut Time Trial at a multisport games, and Mark Stewart, Points Race Champion, was 16th.
Katie Archibald held the hot seat briefly, but finished 4th as Team Englands Haley Simmonds claimed bronze medal. Neah Evans backed up her silver and bronze medals from the track with 8th in the Time Trial.
Looking forward
Team Scotland’s cyclists will turn their attention to the Mountain Bike trails at Nerang on Thursday as Grant Ferguson and Isla Short prepare to compete in the cross-country discipline.
