A large contingent of Scottish riders made the long journey to Newport in South Wales last weekend for the British masters track championships last weekend and came back with an impressive medal haul.

Friday was sprint day and there were Scottish women on the podium in all but 1 category. Scottish squad tandem pilot Louise Haston (Torq Performance) won the female 35-39 category.  Fleur Stoops (Glasgow Green CC) took the gold medal in the 40-44 age group.   In the 45-49 category Carole Dick (Stirling BC) picked up a bronze medal.  In the 55+ age group Gwyneth Rixon (Sandy Wallace Cycles) took the gold medal.  Colin Davenport (Glasgow Sprint Track Cycling Team) took bronze in the men’s 30-34 age group.  Ivor Reid (City of Edinburgh RT) was victorious in the 55-59 category.  In the 75+ category John Mason took the silver medal.

Saturday morning was TT time.  John Mason picked up another silver medal in the 75+ 500m TT.  Ian Humphreys (Sandy Wallace Cycles) took silver in the 60-64 age group.   In the 55-59 category Ivor Reid took silver.  Colin Davenport finished in the bronze medal position in the 30-34 1km TT.  In the female 55+ 500m TT Kathleen McCormack (Glasgow Wheelers) won with Gwyneth Rixon taking the silver medal.  Fleur Stoops and Louise Haston both took silver in their categories.

Next up were the scratch races.  Louise Haston won the female 35-39 8km race.  Anna Fairweather (Spokes RT) picked up a silver medal in the 30-34 category and Fleur Stoops picked up another bronze medal in the 40-44 race.  In the 45+ race Janette Hazlett (Glasgow Ivy CC) took the bronze medal.  In the men’s 75+ category John Mason added another silver medal to his collection.

Sunday morning kicked off with pursuits.  John Mason picked up his 4th silver medal in the 75+ 2km event.  Ian Humphries and Graham Barclay (Leslie Bike Shop-Bikers Boutique) both took gold in their categories.  In the 50-54 age group Peter Ettles (Sandy Wallace Cycles) picked up the silver medal and Steve Clayton (Stirling BC) took the bronze.  In the women’s event Kathleen McCormack won her second gold medal.  Louise Haston and Carole Dick both picked up silver medals in their categories and Janette Hazlett took another bronze.

The weekend finished off with points races.  It was a bronze medal for John Mason in the 75+ race.  George Grant (Forres CC) took the silver medal in the 70-74 category.   Graham Barclay lapped the field in the 55-59 race and finished in the silver medal position. Steve Clayton picked up another bronze medal in the 50-54 category.  In the 40+ female race Gillian Anderson (VC Astar Anderside) took silver and Janette Hazlett the bronze.  Louise Haston picked up another silver medal in the 35-39 category and Anna Fairweather won the 30-34 race.
