Youth A Boy’s Sprint:
True to form, last rider off Jack Cruden (Glasgow Riderz) set the best time of 11.88, equating to a speed of 60.6kph. This was half a second faster than Jamie Penny (Discovery Junior CC) at 12.31 with Oran McConville (East Kilbride RC) at 12.46.
Through the quarters and we were set for semi-finals with Jack Cruden against Dylan Hughes (Hetton Hawks CC) and Jamie Penny against Oran McConville.
There would be a four-man sprint with Douglas Arthur (Johnstone Wheelers CC), Callum Lyall (Discovery Junior CC), Matti Dobbins (Johnstone Wheelers CC) and Struan Pryde (Deeside Thistle CC) for the minor placings.
Through to the Final it came down to Jack Cruden who progressed straight through his semi but his opponent Oran McConvillehad to ride three heats to meet up in the final…three and a half to be exact as the third race had to be restarted after a rider touched the barrier.
In the run-off for third Dylan Hughes took the first heat against Jamie Penny and made sure of the bronze by taking the second heat as well.
In the Final Jack Cruden made sure of both the first and second heats to take Gold with Oran McConville making it to the second top step of the podium.
Youth C Girl’s 1500m Pursuit (Omnium event 1):
Imani Pereira-James was looking in fine form as she posted the fastest time pushing Eilidh Shaw (Stirling BC) into second spot. Completing the line-up was Morven Yeoman in third spot.
Youth C Boys 1500m Pursuit (Omnium event 1):
Edinburgh RC’s Alfie Atterton set easily the fastest time (2:18.03) in this event with Finn McHenry (Glasgow Riderz) in second spot at 2:21.01 and Gordon Johnston of East Kilbride RC in third at 2:25.45.
Junior Men Keirin:
This was a tactical race from the off with the riders looking like they may even lose the wheel of the derny at one point. Into the dash and it was looking as if it would be between Lewis Stewart (Glasgow Cycle Team) and Joe Nally (Hardie-Cycles.com) but they had reckoned without Danny Mulholland (Glasgow Cycle Team) who came through on the line to pip his teammate into second with the Hardie Cycles rider into third.
Junior Women Keirin:
In the women’s event it was a much more straightforward affair with Amber King (Glasgow Sprint Team) having no trouble keeping her opponents at bay. She finished several bike lengths ahead of Lauryn Dawber (Swinnerton Cycles) and Rosa Martin (Team 22).
Youth C Boy’s Sprint (Omnium event 2):
In this counting event for the Omnium there was a new name to come to the fore with Daniel Cutler (Bronte Wheelers/Neophix Eng) finishing in third spot. Top place once again went to Alfie Atterton with Finn McHenry taking second.
Youth C Girl’s Sprint (Omnium event 2):
Glasgow Riderz’s Imani Pereira-James was once again head and shoulders above her opponents Eilidh Shaw and Morven Yeoman and sat in the lead of the Omnium.
Youth A Girl’s 2000m Ind. Pursuit:
With four girls lining up for this event the fastest time in the heats went to Ellie Park in 2:40.52. This set up a final against Eve Martin who had posted a time of 2:41.82.
In the run-off for third between Lusia Steele and Anna Shackley (Glasgow Riderz) the bronze went to the Johnstone Wheelers rider in a time of 2:43.45 to Shackley’s 2:48.2.
In the final Ellie Park was up against Eve Martin and came home in 2:39.98 to take Gold with Martin taking Silver in a time of 2:43.29.
Junior Women 2000m Individual Pursuit:
In the first heat Sarah Bradford (Team Jadan Weldtite) was up against Georgia Mansfield (Forres CC) and the experienced Bradford caught her opponent with 4 laps still to go and went on to set a fast time 2:38.63
In the second heat we had Rhona Callander (Team Jadan-Weldtite) take on Rosa Martin (Team 22). Callander pulled her wheel forward and it was decided to run Jenny Holl (Team Jaden Weldtite) against Lulu Bartlett (The Racers) before the re-run of the Callander/Martin heat.
Jenny Holl was looking good and came home before Bartlett and in the re-run Martin was a good half lap up by the end.
In the run-off for third Rosa Martin was up against Lulu Bartlett and it was The Racers rider who pulled ahead and took bronze.
It was a final run-off between Team Jadan Weldtite teammates Jenny Holl and Sarah Bradford, and this time Bradford would not be denied, taking Gold.
Youth A Boy’s 2000m Ind. Pursuit:
It was a close run in the heats with Struan Pryde and Jack Cruden vying for the fastest time. Up against each other it was anyone’s guess who had gone faster but when the times came it was the Deeside Thistle rider who just edged it with a time of 2:29.57 to Cruden’s 2:29.64.
In the run-off for the Bronze it was between Dylan Hughes and Jamie Penny with Hughes edging it in 2:35.01 with Penny in 2:36.03.
In the final between Jack Cruden and Struan Pryde it was the self-proclaimed ‘fastest man in Scotland’ who took Gold in a time of 2:29.46 with Cruden in Silver with 2:30.94.
Junior Men 20k Scratch Race:
Joe Nally once again showed his class by dominating the event. Along with Glasgow Cycle Team’s Euan Sutherland and Calum Shackley he gained a lap. A couple of riders gave their all and pulled out while Edinburgh RC’s Matthew Devlin was forced to stop and change his back wheel before continuing.
In the sprint it was Nally who crossed the line first with Euan Sutherland in second. Joe Reilly (Spokes RT) crossed over in third spot but took the 4th place overall as Shackley had a lap on him.
Youth C Girl’s 500m TT (Omnium event 3):
Imani Pereira-James once again proved fastest edging Eilidh Shaw with Morven Yeoman in third spot and these were the final placings in the Omnium event, Imani with a total time of 2:58.73 to Eilidh’s 3:00.22 and Morven’s 3:16.91.
Youth C Boy’s 500m TT (Omnium event 3):
It was the 4th heat between Daniel Cutler and Gordon Johnston that saw the fastest time produced by the Bronte Wheelers rider in 44.87.
Alfie Atterton came home in 45.5 with Finn McHenry in 46.1. This meant that Alfie Atterton took the Omnium overall with a total time of 3:03.53 to Finn McHenry’s 3:07.11 and Daniel Cutler in third spot with 3:10.62.
This concluded three days of fantastic racing inside the velodrome and with the talent on show, Scotland has a lot top look forward to in the coming years…some future British Champions in that lot!
