Scottish Cycling’s Alba Road Race Series returned for 2016 on Easter Sunday with the Dick Londragon kicking off round one in Knockburn, Banchory.

The strong wind didn’t put the riders off with 39 on the start line for a race which ended with a head to head between David Lines from Wheelbase Altura MGD and Raleigh GAC’s Evan Oliphant.

A group of six riders broke away in the second lap of the race. First to drop back was Jamie Henderson from Spokes Racing Team. Next to leave the leaders were Lee Smith from Aberdeen Wheelers and Calum Gray from DUMRCC, both of which were swept up by the chasing group. Calum stayed strong throughout the race and managed to break away from the chasing group to finish in fourth position.

At the front of the race the Raleigh duo of Evan Oliphant and Craig Wallace worked well together, with Craig pedalling hard on the final climb of lap 8 in an attempt to drop David Lines but he managed to hold on; the effort proved enough for Craig to drop back from the leading group for the final lap, leaving David and Evan to fight it out for the win.

After a close final lap it came down to a 100m sprint between the two for the finish. David Lines took the top podium position and the 2016 Dick Londragon title, moving into the second round of the Alba Road Race Series as leader.

Craig Wallace held his own in 3rd position and joined his team mate, Evan, on the podium – a great effort from both Craig and Evan who had both been racing the previous day at the Chorley GP.
