The Scottish Cycling community was shocked and saddened by the loss of long standing member of the Fife Century Road Club Alistair Speed after being involved in a collision with a car in 2013.

In June, Scottish Cycling welcomed the news that appropriate action would been taken against the driver involved in the collision.  Today the driver involved in the incident has been sentenced to five years in jail. The driver has been found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving and has also been convicted of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by deleting a record of a call on her mobile.

Scottish Cycling continues to lobby for safe road for all cyclists.  Along with other national organisations Scottish Cycling support the Road Share campaign, the Bill is designed to protect the most vulnerable road users and to reflect a hierarchy of road users.

Our thoughts go out to Alistair's sister Mhairi and the rest of the Speed family.
