Article by Craig McCulloch, UK School Games Team Manager, Scotland

As far as I’m aware this has been the most successful Scottish Inter regionals track team to date!  Fifth place is a fantastic achievement and a result we should be very proud of!  Throughout the competition the riders stepped up to the challenge and gave it their all against some of the best riders from across the UK.  The team raced with confidence, determination and self-belief.  Everyone put it all on the line and we really got what they deserved!  In total, across the weekend, over 106 personal bests were gained from all of the riders and I know we had our fair share of that!  For me the whole Inter Regional School Games process started a few months ago, from the organisation, to the training sessions, the advice and the emails and it has all been worthwhile.  For me, seeing the riders coming into their own and realising their potential has been very rewarding.  However  I can say is that it’s not by accident this has happened and the work that British and Scottish Cycling are currently putting into youth development alongside clubs, coaches and volunteers.  Especially over this past last year with the Regional Schools of Racing, development cluster sessions and general support. We can now see the hard work is beginning to pay off!

Over all my highlight was pretty much everything! It was such a great experience! You can find the full results for all the events on the UK School Games website, but i just want to say how well each rider did across the event.

The team attitude and spirit were commendable, everyone got on well together and supported each other.  All the riders and staff were very professional and focused but we also had a great time with lots of fun in between the hard work.

In summary the riders were a credit to us, themselves, each other and Scotland.  Well done again guys! Lets continue onwards and upwards guys!

Lastly, I must say a huge thanks to everyone that helped put on such a successly event and also a personal thank you to Archie Johnstone from Stirling bike club who was a massive help to me and the team, we could not have done it without you!
