Scottish cycling stars, present and future, descended on the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome this Sunday for the Scottish Cycling National Track Championships with many of Scottish Cycling’s performance athletes looking to set qualification standards for the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014. The fourth and final day of the 4 day long competition saw our Endurance riders take to the track to compete in the Kilo, 2km Pursuit, 3k Pursuit and 4k Pursuit.

In the Men’s Kilo Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh RC) not only took the championship title but also set a new Scottish Record with a time of 1.03.616 just ahead of Glasgow Life Track Cycling Team’s Kenny Ayre who also achieved a Personal Best. The Junior kilo saw Finn Harrod (Discovery Junior CC) take the title with a time of 1.11.643.  The Youth A girls 2km Pursuit title went to Lulu Bartlett (The Racers), whilst in the Youth A boys 2km Pursuit Ben Forsyth (Edinburgh RC) took victory over Stirling Bike Club’s Andy Brown. Forsyth’s Edinburgh RC team mate Louise Borthwick claimed the Junior women’s 2km Pursuit title.

Taking to the boards in the Men’s Individual Pursuit was reigning champion Ben Peacock (Paisley Velo Race Team) who was looking to defend his title however aptly-named Silas Goldsworthy (Sandy Wallace Cycles) was looking to challenge him for the title. In qualifying Ben Peacock toppled the Scottish Record, with a new Personal Best of 4.35.526.  Less than 5 minutes later Goldsworthy smashed the record with a time of 4.35.506, just two hundredths of a second ahead of Peacock.

Potential Commonwealth Games athletes Peacock and Goldsworthy went all out in a head to head in a nail biting final, with Goldsworthy taking the victory with a time of 4.35.987 to becoming Scottish Men’s Individual Pursuit champion. In the bronze medal race Gavin Murty (The Racers) stormed to victory over Alistair Rutherford (Wheelbase Altura MGD) securing a bronze medal.

Speaking to Scottish Cycling newly crowned Scottish Champion Silas Goldsworthy said: “I am delighted to be able to walk away with a Scottish title, knowing that the Commonwealth Games are taking place here in just over nine months. Hopefully the crowed enjoyed it too.”

In the Women’s 3km Pursuit, Commonwealth Games hopeful and current Team Pursuit European champion Katie Archibald (City of Edinburgh RC) sailed to victory with a time 3.42.635 beating track cycling new comer Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) while Louise Borthwick took bronze. Katie will now turn her attention to the Track World Cup which will take place in Manchester next weekend. In the Junior boys 3km Pursuit Zak Loney (Team LFH) took the victory over East Kilbride Road Clubs’ Ruari Yeoman.

Veteran Peter Ettles (Sandy Wallace Cycles) picked up the 3k Pursuit championships title with Ross Crook (Edinburgh RC) and Gerry McGarrity (Paisley Velo) taking silver and bronze respectively.  In the Women’s Veteran 3k Pursuit Jenni Nicholson (Sandy Wallace Cycles) took the victory over Glasgow Wheelers Isobel Fletcher.
