The recent appointment of Lynne Munro as the Head of Development of Scottish Cycling, has kick-started a new phase of review and planning in cycle-sport development for Scotland. The Development Team supports the club community through its Regional Development Officers (Sophie Warburton ,West;  Craig McCulloch, East-Mid;  Peter Clark, Grampian, Tayside, Fife;  Donald Hall, Highlands and Islands; Alan Denman, South-West), National Events team (Janette Hazlett, Bob Macfarlane, Heather Sinclair), and Education Officer (Chris Bryant).

Reviewing the current participation opportunities for cyclists, the team are looking to ensure the future growth and success of cycling, by creating a seemless performance and participation pathway where cyclists can access support, programmes, events and facilities, appropriate to their particular needs and aspirations at each stage of their development.

Scotland currently has a wealth of fantastic clubs and events driving these participation opportunities. Scottish Cycling’s Development Team is charged with linking and growing these opportunities, to create a national performance and participation structure that allows cyclists at all levels of riding to achieve their goals. Part of this process will be identifying where gaps exist in the participation pathway and prioritising action to fill the gaps. While the Regional Development Officers (RDO) will support this process locally, it is important to ensure that regional development structures are linked in the pathway to national structures and outcomes. As a Scottish club we invite you to assist us in achieving our goals and aspirations for Scotland: to be the best performing small cycling nation in the world. Your RDO is your region’s full time resource in making progress happen. Working alongside them is the ideal way for you and your club to feed in your own thoughts and ideas, while they support you in affecting change through your own projects and initiatives. So contact your RDO and engage with them in building the pathway in your region. We look forward to having your support us as we take bold steps towards our vision!
