Hundreds of youngsters from across the region took part in the High on Bikes.com North West Youth Circuit Championships, staged in Southport’s Victoria Park on Saturday.
Racing was competitive across the age groups from youth A (under-16s) right down to Youth E (Under-8s) and all were well supported by enthusiastic parents and friends.
Matthew Draper (Team Royal London 360-Isle of Man) took victory by less than a second in the Youth A boys race, edging to victory in a four-up sprint with Matthew Walls (Velocity WD40) taking second and John Didsbury (Salt Ayre Cog Set) completing the podium.
There was also a close finish in the Youth A girls race, with Beacon Wheelers’ Eleanor Dickinson taking the win by inches from Elizabeth Holden (Royal London 360 Isle of Man), while another Beacon Wheelers rider, Henrietta Colborne, took third.
Bolton Hot Wheelers were celebrating victory in the Youth B age group, with Theo Hartley winning narrowly from Blackpool YCA rider Alistair Leivers and Conor Davies (Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man) taking third.
And best girl was Eleanor Davies (Royal London 360-Isle of Man), who was again just inches ahead of Bolton Hot Wheels rider Corrine Side. Connie Hurton (Beacon Wheelers) took third, another second back.
Beacon Wheelers’ Matti Egglestone won the Youth C boys race by half a second from Robert Donaldson (Mossley CRT), while Isaac Peatfield (Bolton Hot Wheels) was third. Anna Armstrong (Border City Wheelers) was fastest female, holding off Nicole Clarke (Birkenhead North End CC).
As well as victory in the Youth B boys race, Bolton Hot Wheelers also took a win in the Youth D boys thanks to Benjamin Peatfield who was almost 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Percy Hampton (Royal London 360-Isle of Man).
And Liverpool Century RC’s Niamha Albones also won the Youth D girls race by a large margin.
And in the under-8 boys (Youth E) race, Niall Colquitt (Royal London 360-Isle of Man) won by half a second from James Donaldson (Mossley CRT). Royal London were also celebrating victory in the Youth E girls race, with Mairi Harrison crossing the line well ahead of Isabel Koch (Bolton Hot Wheels) in second.
