Making the best of things after the cancellation of the Cadence event in Wales, junior Tom Bayliss (Mid Devon CC) held off a chasing pack to win the three-lap South Hams road race in Devon.

Going clear on the final climb to Modbury, Bayliss – one of a number of juniors to switch from National Series race - was just off the front turning into the 400-metre long finishing straight and had just enough in reserve to claim victory ahead of Jamie Fabrizio (CS Dynamo) and the promoting club’s Julian Green.

The cold conditions and drizzle around the 13-mile circuit contributed to an aggressive race with attacks forcing splits in the 76-strong field from the off, but the head of the race kept coming back together to leave around 30 riders in contention on the final lap.

Result:
1 Tom Bayliss (Mid Devon CC)
2 Jamie Fabrizio (CS Dynamo)
3 Julian Green (CS South Hams)
4 Hugh Richards (R U Training Today CC)
5 Dave Gorton (Team Tor 20000
6 Ben Davies (Bristol RC)
7 Joel Kelly (Mid Devon CC)
8 Jamie Howard (Exeter Wheelers)
9 Adam Sainsbury (Exeter Wheelers)
10 Gethin Llewellyn (Tenby Aces CC)
