18 March 2012

The start of Yorkshire Road Race League is only 2 weeks away and in its first year the league consists of ten elite races.

The format is simple with no registration fees, prize money issued by the promoting club after each round and League points gained from 60 points for a winner down to 1 point for twentieth place. A rider can ride as many or as few of the league events as they wish, but a riders best scoring results from up to 8 rounds will count towards the overall placing. The League winner will receive a Yorkshire Road Race League Trophy and there are prizes for the first placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd category riders.

Riders from the UK's leading teams have already signed up for the first races including Knottingley based Sportscover Altura RT, Metaltek-Scott, Haribo Academy, Squadra RT, Aire Valley, Hope Racing and Dirtwheels Cycles. The combination of a league points structure and strong fields of riders will produce exciting racing as riders will be keen to score points right down to 20th place. A team prize has been included with the highest three riders from each team being ranked too, which it is hoped will encourage aggressive racing behind the breaks!

There are still places left for round one on the Penny Pot Road circuit near Harrogate on April 1st., a prestigious circuit with previous winners including Sean Yates and Tom Simpson. Riders can enter the events via the British Cycling online calendar: Full Series Listings
