2011 National Road Race Rankings Update

National Rankings Home

British Cycling's National Rankings are one of the most popular destinations on this website as riders track their progress relative to their peers and target moves up through the system. They are also a great guide to which riders are in form.

Week Ending 20 May 2011 | Last Week's Rankings Update

Elite Men: Elite Men: Early season pace-setter Zak Dempster of Rapha Condor Sharp remains top of the pile in the Elite Men's national rankings, but last weekend's racing saw his lead cut to just 41 points after his closest rival Marcin Bialoblocki (Motorpoint) won the Team Tor promoted Scorpion CS Stage race on Saturday. A National B event, it netted Bialoblocki 30 points, though last year's top ranked rider missed out on a chance to narrow the gap still further when he finished out of the points in Sunday's Hillingdon GP.

The big mover near the top of the rankings this week was Cyclepremier.com/Metaltek's Jason White, who continued a prolific season with a fine win in Sunday's Southend Wheelers' Andrews Trophy, a National B event which netted him 60 points. He also collected 12 points from the mid-week Hog Hill Summer Leage event. White now has six wins to his credit this season in National B races.

Right: Tom Barras claimed a great win at the Hillingdon GP and leapt up the rankings

A new name in the top ten this week is Yanto Barker (Pendragon - Le Col - Colnago). The experienced Welsh rider has had a consistent season since returning from the Cinturon Ciclista Internacional a Mallorca stage race and although a win has so far eluded him, he has finished in the top ten of every event he's ridden in the last month. Fourth in the Hillingdon GP netted him 40 points and saw him move up the rankings from 12th to 9th.

Of the riders bubbling under the top ten, Cyclepremier.com/Metaltek's Tom Barras was the biggest beneficiary of the weekend's racing: his win in the Hillingdon GP was his first significant result since early April and gets his season back on course, lifting him from outside the top twenty into 12th place.

If Barras's win was the ride of the week, he can't claim to have been the rider of the week. That title is claimed by Team Corley Cycles/Cervelo/Alpha R.C's Ashley Cox who had a wonderful four days, finishing second in Thursday's Hog Hill Summer Circuit League, winning the Essex Roads CC Spring Crit race on the Saturday and rounding things off with fourth in the Southend Wheelers' Andrews Trophy. Those three results produced 95 ranking points and a massive jump up the rankings to 15th place.

Teams: The Team rankings continue to be led by Motorpoint and Rapha Condor Sharp, but their rivals are massing behind them. Raleigh have moved up from fourth to third place, thanks largely to Ryan Parnes' second place and Phil Mooney's 6th place in the Hillingdon GP. Ashley Cox's heroics have helped lift Team Corley Cycles/Cervelo/Alpha R.C up a place into 4th, whilst Jason White and Tom Barras have helped propel Cyclepremier.com/Metaltek from 10th to 5th.

Women: Once again, the majority of the big points scorers at the weekend in the Women's rankings were the top first cat riders. Hannah Rich picked up 28 points for her joint first in the women's race the Hillingdon GP, which lifted her from third to second, leap-frogging Hannah Walker who was seventh. Rich is now closing in on arguably the rider of the season to date, Hannah Barnes, though Barnes had a fine race at Hillingdon too and collected 14 points for 5th place.

Lucy Garner's joint first at Hillingdon gave her points tally a big boost and she will surely move swiftly up the rankings as the season progresses. Garner has four wins to date this year, including two rounds of the National Women's Road and Circuit series. Like Barnes she is a Junior and 2011 is shaping up to be a great season for younger women riders.
