Royal London 360 Isle of Man Youth League Round 1

Event: Tuesday 12th April 2011
Promoted By: Team Royal London 360 Isle Of Man
Event HQ: National Sports Centre, Douglas, Isle of Man
Report: Dot Tilbury

There was a large turn out of 297 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night (April 12th) for the opening round of the 2011 Royal London 360 youth league, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary..

Peter Lloyd was the winner of the novices class ahead of Chester Bell and leading girl Jemma Quayle, who outsprinted Orry Wilson and Joseph Corlett in the dash for third.

In the born 2006 & later age group Zachary Dowson edged out Jack Keenan and Corey Peters to bag maximum points. Drystan Sewell, Ivan Sorby and Cian Jackson filled the remaining places on the top six leader board, with Sophie Smith the best girl in 11th place.

Niall Colquitt beat Harry Kneen to the line for victory in the born 2005 category. Nathan Cannell was a good third and Mairi Harrison the first girl home in fourth spot. Stephen Higgins was a good 12th in his first competitive outing.

Picking up from where he left off last season, Zac Walker took pole position in the born 2004 event. Dillon Dowson was second followed by Ralf Holden, James Devereau, Joshua Dudley and Oliver Harrison, who rounded off the top six. Newcomer Nancy Wheeler did well to grab the girls' prize in 12th place.

Jonty Bregazzi had the edge on breakaway partners Jake Wilson and Percy Hampton in the sprint at the end of the born 2003 race. Jack Christian led the rest of the field in for fourth, with 11th placed Darcy Cain pipping Megan Cannell for the girls' honours.

Glen Vine's Will Corkill was too strong for Aaron Lund and James Harrison in the gallop that decided the top three positions in the born 2002 class, while Juan Kneen outgunned Max Walker and Tosh Teare to take the top slot in the born 2001 three lapper. Blae Cain and Emma Draper were the top girls in their respective races.

Attacking from the gun, Matthew Draper was the runaway winner of the born 2000 grouping. Ben Christian grabbed the runners-up spot in front of Tara Ferguson, Sam Batey, Joseph Corkish and Kaitlin Slack.

In the very well supported racing bike classes William Draper outsprinted Thomas Bostock, Conor Davies and the impressive Eleanor Davies to claim the number one spot in the under 12's event. Charlie Gibson was the first category D (under 10) rider in a very good fifth position.

The under 16's race was run at a fast and furious pace. Jamie Dudley, Josh Knights and the in-form Nick Corlett eventually broke free from the fast moving pack and stayed clear to the finish where Dudley got the verdict in the sprint for the line. Leon Mazzone led Owen Dudley (1st U/14) and the rest of the chasers home for fourth, with Anna Christian and Breeshey Cain the top U/16 and U/14 girls in 10th and 12th places respectively.

Mayor of Douglas Honours Youth League

The mayor of Douglas Ritchie McNicholl recently hosted a reception in the Town Hall for members of Team Royal London 360 and their families to celebrate their achievements in last year's British national championships.

Pictured with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Councillor Stephen Pitts (extreme right) are British U/12 youth champion Owen Dudley, North West U/10 champion William Draper, British U/8 national series champion Charlie Gibson and GHS team time trial champions Jake Kelly, Alex Haddock and Josh Knights.

British Cycling would like to thank the organising team, officials and everyone else who helped promote this event. Our sport could not exist without the hundreds of people, many of them unpaid volunteers, who put in many hours of hard work running events, activities and clubs.
