At the end of the 10th year of the Women's Team Race Series, one which most will agree was one of the best; Motorpoint/Marshals Pasta ran out the overall winners after the final race at Coalville on 19th September with 2,519 points. They were closely chased all year by Max Gear RT who finished second with 2,140 points and the girls from the Surrey League team who made a strong challenge towards the end of the season and ended with 1,415 points.
With 22 teams registered at the start of the season, this represents a massive increase in the number of women riders and a Series that continues to attract riders who feel comfortable in this racing environment. Almost all events in the Team Series had full fields and with about £1,000 in prize money available, the popularity of the Series is clear.
The Motorpoint/Marshals Pasta riders won the most points for a team in three races whilst Max Gear RT claimed four races. However, as always with Team Series races, it is how each team places its four counting riders throughout the series to gain the most points and it was here that Motorpoint had the edge, particularly on courses that are reasonably flat such as Oakley where they filled the first three places.
The final race of the series at Coalville was won by Anna Fischer of Maxgear with Maryka Sennema and Emily Bagnall of the Surrey League helping their team to a 2-3-4 result followed by three riders from Motorpoint headed up by Maxine Filby. So a new name will be added to the mythical Team Series trophy - that of Motorpoint, but can they repeat this feat in 2011?
