John Ibbotson Fund Seeks Talented Young Riders for 2011

Posted Tuesday 13th September

Calling all young riders: The John Ibbotson has opened it's application process for 2011. The south east based fund backs two young cyclists each year in their dream to achieve a contract with a professional cycling team. Any applicants need to show they can perform at the level needed to race abroad, and that they are willing to spend the whole season racing for a foreign team.

The fund will help find the chosen riders a suitable team, give them a coach (if needed), provides mentors and gives financial backing.

Anyone wishing to apply needs to send their CV, along with a covering letter to the fund (contact below) explaining why they believe they should be chosen.

The Ibbotson fund has its main fund raising event, Ibbo's Cake Quest, coming up on September 26th. The sportive starts and finishes in Walton-on-the-Hill, near Box Hill, and takes in the hills of Surrey. Three road routes are offered from 60km to 150km while one guided off-road route will let people explore the trails in the area.

According to the organisers, the emphasis is on fun and cake. The route goes past some of Surrey's best cycling cafes and there'll plenty of cake at the end of the ride. Online entry is available via the website.
