Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League

Story posted June 14, by Dot Tilbury

With many of the regular competitors away for TT week (the annual motorcycle races), there was a smaller than usual turnout of 183 riders at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 8 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league. Sam Cunningham topped the novices class, finishing well clear of Harvey Coole and Albert Kessler. Fourth placed Thomas Barker led Amy Quayle and Oliver Corkish over the line, with newcomer Libbie Thompson a close seventh.

In the born 2005 & later age group Niall Colquitt outsprinted Harry Kneen and Mairi Harrison to record his third win of the series. Nathan Cannell was fourth ahead of Zachary Dowson and Jacob O'Boyle, whose sixth place was his best result to date. Jack Keenan, James Scott, Callum Salisbury and Luca Moretta completed the top ten.

Dillon Dowson beat main rival Zac Walker for a fifth successive victory in the born 2004 category. Ben Boyle held off the fast finishing Joshua Dudley and James Devereau to claim third a short distance in front of Cameron Dudley and Nathan Slack. Port Soderick's Joshua Kelly was eighth and Mia Worthington the top girl in ninth spot.

Leaving nothing to chance, Percy Hampton went from the gun in the born 2003 event and led all the way to the finish. Jake Wilson just got the better of Jonty Bregazzi in the gallop for second and Matthew Black broke away from a five-strong chasing group to grab fourth. Jack Christian outsprinted leading girl Darcy Cain for fifth, while Jack Collister and Ryan Quirk managed to stay clear of the main bunch to take seventh and eighth.

British Cycling national series leader Charlie Gibson continued his winning ways in the born 2002 class, maintaining his unbeaten run with another impressive solo victory. Will Corkill managed to match Gibson's pace on the opening lap but in the end had to settle for a safe second. James Harrison dropped travelling companion Aaron Lund in the closing stages to take the final place on the podium and best girl Blae Cain outgunned Nicholas Kissack for fifth place.

Max Walker had to overcome a strong challenge from Adam Scarffe before securing maximum points for a seventh time in the born 2001 race. Third placed Juan Kneen lost contact with the two leaders on the last lap and Conor Gelling pipped Emma Draper for fourth. Chloe Crellin and Christopher Moore rounded off the result sheet.

Strengthening his bid for the overall honours, Ben Christian outsprinted Thomas Bostock, Luke Murray and Sam Batey to score his sixth success in the born 2000 three lapper. Tom Murray rode away from Joseph Corkish to claim fifth and eleventh placed Ciara Sowerby edged out Ruby Kennedy in the battle for the girls' prize.

The girls were well to the fore in the born 1999-97 grouping, with Breeshey Cain, Breesha Quirk, Phoebe Ferguson and Abby Quirk finishing second, third, fourth and fifth behind runaway winner Matthew Draper. Sam Mills led Will Quirk home to secure the last place on the top six leader board..

In the under 12 racing bikes Owen Dudley got the jump on Michael Moss and Matthew Draper for a well judged victory, while Jake Kelly got the verdict over Josh Knights, Alex Haddock and Nicholas Corlett in the under 16's event.
