The fourth and fifth round of the National Disability and Para-cycling Series saw some lightning fast racing in Middlesbrough’s circuit race and Sedgefield’s time-trial, with back-to-back wins for Katie Crowhurst and Kate Coulson, Callum Russell and Lynn Hammel.

Round 4 – Circuit Race

The third round of the series saw riders take to the fast, flat circuit at Middlesborough Sports Village for round four.

In the men’s C1-3 class, Ben Hetherington (HUUB WattShop) secured the win ahead of Charlie Stanton-Stock (Loughborough Students CC) and Callum Deboys.

Finlay Webb (Exeter Wheelers) stormed to victory in the men’s C4-5 class, beating Ben Paryne (Maidenhead & District), and Nicholas Fairfield (City RC – Hull).

In the open blind tandem category, Mason Bradley and pilot Loz Staples took the win ahead of Nadeem Mughal and Graeme Smith. Katie Crowhurst and Kate Coulson were crowned the victors in the women’s equivalent, ahead of Mel Robson and Lauren Atlott.

The handcycle categories saw wins for Callum Russell and Lynn Hammel (Kendal Cycling Club), while Jonathan Knott secured the men’s recumbent trike class victory.

Calum O’Neill and Shelley Halsey both secured the wins in the men’s and women’s trike category.

Round 5 – Time-Trial

The racing continued into Sunday, with riders taking to the start line in Sedgefield for the 19.6km time-trial.

Callum Russell secured the win in the men’s handcycle, while Calum O’Neill and Shelley Halsey took back-to-back wins in the men’s and women’s trike category.

Ben Payne took the men’s C4 class win ahead of Nicolas Fairfield, while Benjamin Watson won the men’s C3 category, leaving Ben Hetherington and Charlie Stanton-Stock to take second and third, respectively. Callum Deboys also managed to take a win in the men’s C2 category.

Katie Crowhurst and Kate Coulson took their second win of the weekend in the women’s blind tandem, while Tony Harrison and pilot Paul Kitson won the men’s time-trial ahead of Nadeem Mughal and Jamie Cockeram.
