Rebecca Durrell was a convincing winner of the women’s HSBC UK | National Road Series, starring over the eight rounds as her Brother UK – Tifosi p/b OnForm team also dominated the team standings.

This is how the series was won:

Round 1 – East Cleveland Klondike:

Brother UK – Tifosi p/b On Form set their stall out early on, but it was Anna Henderson, rather than Durrell, who claimed the first victory of the series. Henderson beat Jos Lowden in a sprint finish on Guisborough High Street to win the East Cleveland Klondike, as her team-mates also claimed third (Leah Dixon), fourth (Durrell) and fifth (Jessica Finney).

Round 2 – Chestnut Homes Lincoln Grand Prix:

Durrell’s first victory of the season came in a race she knows well, the Chestnut Homes Lincoln Grand Prix. She edged out Jess Roberts on the iconic Michaelgate climb to take her second successive win at the venue, and lay down an ominous marker of what was to come.

Round 3 – CiCle Classic:

Emily Nelson took what she herself described as a ‘shock’ win in round 3 – the CiCle Classic. The RST/Cycle Division Racing Team rider admitted her goal had been simply to finish the race, but she ended it in top spot, with Durrell second and Elizabeth Bennett third.

Round 4 – Alexandra Tour of the Reservoir:

A third different Brother UK – Tifosi p/b OnForm rider topped the podium as they secured their third victory of the series, with Leah Dixon’s solo attack on stage 2 proving enough to give her the overall Alexandra Tour of the Reservoir victory. Durrell had won stage 1, but it was her team-mate who stole the show on the second day of racing, powering away from the lead group to take the acclaim of the assembled crowds in Consett as she crossed the line alone.

Round 5 – Curlew Cup:

Bennett was victorious by the narrowest of margins at the Curlew Cup, winning a bunch sprint finish from April Tacey and team-mate Charlotte Berry. Abby-Mae Parkinson finished fourth, with Durrell again keeping her points total ticking over with a fifth-place finish.

Round 6 – Stockton Grand Prix:

Durrell was back on the podium in the north east in July, as she showed her power after the race came down to a sprint finish. She crossed the line first, ahead of Bennett in second and Fiona Turnbull in third.

Round 7 – South Coast Classic:

Lowden claimed her first series victory in the penultimate round, the South Coast Classic, breaking free of Dixon and Claire Steels on the final lap of the race to put herself into a lead which she never relinquished.

Round 8 – Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix:

Steels was rewarded for her strong second half to the season as she won the final race of the series, the Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix. It was her superior strength on the climbs which gave Steels the edge, as she attacked and split the peloton before dominating the final climb to cross the line comfortably clear of second-placed Anna Christian and third-placed Jennifer Powell.
