The best male and female riders in the country will converge on the Derwent Reservoir this weekend for round 5 of the men’s and round 4 of the women’s HSBC UK | National Road Series Men – the Tour of the Reservoir and the Alexandra Tour of the Reservoir.
A long-established staple in the British domestic crown, the Tour of the Reservoir was first staged in 2005, while the women’s event debuted in 2014.
The two-day stage race provides a huge test of both ability and consistency for riders:
2018:
Tom Moses (JLT Condor) claimed victory on stage two to take the overall men’s win last year, following up his sixth-place finish on stage one, which Ian Bibby won. Bibby finished third in the overall standings, with Hayden McCormick second.
It was a similar story in the women’s event, as Sophie Wright (Torelli-Assure) combined a stage two victory with a solid fifth-place finish in stage one to be crowned overall winner.
2017:
Mel Lowther (Team Breeze) enjoyed at great weekend of racing at the 2017 women’s event, winning stage one and finishing behind only Laura Massey on stage two to claim overall victory.
On the men’s side, Tom Stewart’s third-place finish on stage one paved the way for his victory, as he topped the overall podium in front of Karol Domagalski and Bibby.
2016:
Joe Fry (Pedal Heaven RT) secured overall victory in the men’s event, despite not winning either stage.
Day one was won by Moses (JLT Condor) with Erick Rowsell (Madison Genesis) impressive in a late solo attack to win stage two.
Nikki Juniper (Ford Ecoboost) claimed the women’s event win after finishing second in stage two behind Alice Barnes with Grace Garner winning on day one.
