Heathrow Commuter, part of the Surface Access team at Heathrow Airport has helped a growing number of airport staff start cycling to work by providing a one stop shop for all their cycling needs, the first facility of it’s kind at an airport in the UK.

The Heathrow Cycle Hub, established specifically for staff with 10% discount off all products all year round, free labour during a bike service, free bike maintenance courses, the ability to call out a mechanic and for airport companies, set-up a Cycle to Work scheme. The Heathrow Cycle Hub heathrow.com/cycle already has over 2,000 members and is continuing to grow.

British Cycling is now working together with Heathrow to give its staff expert tips, industry discounts and bike insurance, joining the sports governing body’s 79,000-strong membership. By encouraging Heathrow Cycle Hub members to become British Cycling members, staff will be able to access up to £10m liability insurance, free legal support and advice, tips and advice from the best in the business through British Cycling’s online resource – the Insight Zone – plus 10% discount at other retailers, priority access and discounted tickets for major UK cycling events.

"We know that perks such as free bike maintenance courses and free servicing all help commuters stay on the bike day in, day out and we’re really pleased to be working together to ensure Hub members get even more out of their cycling by joining British Cycling."

Terry Greenwood, British Cycling’s Membership Manager, said:

“The work that Heathrow Cycle Hub has done for its staff to promote cycling is absolutely fantastic. We know that perks such as free bike maintenance courses and free servicing all help commuters stay on the bike day in, day out and we’re really pleased to be working together to ensure Hub members get even more out of their cycling by joining British Cycling.”

Theo Panayi, Sustainable Travel Manager at Heathrow said:

“The Heathrow Cycle Hub is supporting the delivery of Heathrow’s Surface Access Strategy, making a real difference at the airport by encouraging more staff to cycle to work. Our aim is to help cyclists make their daily commute and increase confidence amongst novice riders. The Heathrow Cycle Hub is a place where staff can talk to qualified mechanics who are also keen cyclists and get advice on anything from bicycles to route planning. We will continue to develop our offer to staff with the aim of growing the cycling community here at Heathrow.”

Heathrow Cycle Hub’s success was rewarded earlier this year when they won ‘Best Workplace Initiative’ at the London Cycle Awards 2013 this year.
