Cycle to Work Day will return for the third year in a row in early September with the national event encouraging commuters to take to two wheels and cycle to work instead of driving or taking public transport.

The last two years have been a massive success with huge numbers of commuters taking to their bikes covering half a million miles.

According to census data, 760,000 people in the UK cycle to work regularly. aims to increase those numbers and hope that by 2021 more than  a million people will regularly commute to work by bike everyday.

British Cycling Campaigns manager, Martin Key, said:

“Everyone is aware of the huge rise in interest in getting to work by bike with people wanting to live healthier lives, beat the traffic, save money and get to work feeling motivated. There is now a growing recognition among employers that if they want to recruit the best and brightest they need to be providing facilities which make cycling more attractive.

“Evidence shows that when cycling is made convenient and comfortable, people young and old, will cycle bringing massive benefits to the country and improving the feel of towns and cities. This is happening in London and Cambridge and can happen in towns and cities across the country if the government implements a meaningful investment strategy.

“Cycle to Work day is a fantastic initiative which everyone at British Cycling is delighted to support.”

British Cycling is encouraging its members and supporters to get involved on the day by sharing with us your photos in your best commuting ‘cycling chic’ to membersphotos@britishcycling.org.uk or share them with us on Twitter using #britcyclechic.
