Meet Martin from Putney (via Oldham), who likes nothing better than a spin in Surrey Hills with his mates.

Name:

Martin Jubb

Age:

40

From:

Originally from Oldham, now Putney

Club:

VC Colets

What kind of riding do you do?

On the road, I ride with a bunch of mates early on a Saturday, who are all much better than me, which is great as it pushes me. Sunday is out with my club, which is more relaxed. I enjoy sportives, have done RideLondon in both years, and last year’s Etape du Tour.

What do you enjoy most about cycling?

I enjoy the physical challenge of pushing myself and getting in shape without it taking up all day. You get a great return for just a couple of hours.

What’s your favourite ride?

Richmond Park is beautiful, but only when it’s quiet. In fine weather, Staples Lane, Crocknorth and Box Hill (in the Surrey Hills) take some beating. Although it was a cold and wet day, I loved the Tour of Flanders and I’d ride the Oude Kwaremont any day!

What’s your top cycling tip to share?

Keep going, keep pushing and you will get better! Invest in quality bike maintenance and join a club. Always wear matching kit or you’ll look a bit odd.

If you had a tandem, who would you like to ride it with?

Sarah Storey. She always come across as being good fun and she supports (Manchester) United, so we’d have a good chat at a cake stop.
