Jackie rides for Seacroft Wheelers in West Yorkshire, cycles as a post-injury alternative to hockey and isn't afraid of taking on a few hills.
Name: Jackie Abbott
Age: 49
From: Bradford, West Yorkshire
Club: Seacroft Wheelers
What kind of riding do you do?
Social and the bike leg in sprint triathlons (as a team).
What do you enjoy most about cycling?
The freedom I feel and the fact I can set off and choose where to go. I have made lots of friends through cycling too. I used to play hockey and had to retire due a knee injury, so I love the fact I can push myself and set myself challenges. I wanted to keep up my fitness and not sit back just because of the injury.
What’s your favourite ride?
I have a short but hilly ride which I challenge myself to do quicker and I love riding out to Skipton as the country side is moments away.
What’s your top cycling tip to share?
Buy decent shorts - don’t scrimp on cost there. Challenge yourself; you might be surprised at what you can do…
If you had a tandem, who would you like to ride it with?
Chris Hoy
