What kind of riding do you do?
Half cyclo-cross (local paths and trails), half mountain biking (local paths and trails) and a little road. Living on a peninsula, riding the same roads gets a little tedious after the first few decades - using paths and tracks refreshes it. Plus, I don’t have to contend with the traffic.

What do you enjoy most about cycling?
These days, it’s a form of exercise and, when I am in Scotland, a way to explore. Depending on where I am in the country, it’s a different thing.

What’s your favourite ride?
A circuit around Aviemore, taking on the Old Burma Road climb; which is a 45 minute climb at a 1:3 gradient along a forest trail. I tend to see maybe three people in the three hours it takes and a total of three miles on-road.

What’s your top cycling tip to share?
Take lower gears than you think you need.

If you had a tandem, who would you like to ride it with?
Bender from Futurama.
