George Herbert Stancer OBE was born at Pocklington on 17th April 1878. He became a member of the Yorkshire road Club in 1898 and remained so until his death in 1962. For 25 years he was secretary and for 14 years President of the Cyclists’ Touring Club. It is in memory of this fine Yorkshireman that the GHS rides are promoted annually on a Sunday near his birthday.
