Event Overview

Peterborough 5x5 Challenge-Marholm  Sunday 19th May 2013

This event is organised by the ‘Peterborough 5x5 Challenge’ Help for Heroes team that staged the very successful Marholm and North Luffenham sportives last year, over distances up to 90 miles. We raised £10,750 from a variety of events for the charity Help for Heroes. This year, the money raised from this event will go to local charities and good causes.

We are all cycle enthusiasts who are experienced in staging first class events and believe that challenging and satisfying sportives can be organised at a reasonable cost whilst still providing what you expect from such an event.

Distances of 50, 70 and 100 miles will be fully signed with accompanying maps.

The routes will take place in quiet areas of scenic Lincolnshire, Rutland and Leicestershire on some of the best cycle-friendly roads in the country.  If you think the area is flat, think again!  Choose the 70 miler (3133ft of climb) for a good workout or, if you couldn’t afford to go to the Alps this year, pick the 100 miler which gives you 4987ft of climb.  Finally, for an equally lovely route with less effort, the 50 miler gives you a gentle 1911ft of climb.

Drinks and feed stations will be provided in strategic places with nearby cyclist-friendly cafes en route indicated on the maps and in the ride instructions for those who like leisurely stop-offs. (They tell me the all day breakfast at the Rutland Garden Centre in Ashwell is excellent!).

HQ will be Marholm Village Hall which provides adequate, safe free parking and pre-ride and post-ride refreshments, including homemade cakes, to start, and end a satisfying day.

Start time for the three routes will be from 8-30am. Each rider will have their times posted on our website after the event.

Entries can be via the British Cycling Web site (you don’t need to be a member) or you can download an entry form and post your entry in or enter on the day. Entry limit will be 300 riders.

Cost to enter is only £10 by post or £12 on the day. Last day for online entries 17th May 2013.
