Dawn Raid is a brand new sportive from Help for Heroes which will form part of Hero Ride, the charity's new cycling initiative for 2013.

In keeping with Help for Heroes' military roots, Dawn Raid will set off from Tedworth House in Wiltshire, the charity's flagship Recovery Centre, between 2am-3am on Sunday 2 June and reach Blackheath in London between 10am-11am. From there, the riders will join thousands of other cyclists, led by the biggest cohort of wounded servicemen, women and veterans, and cycle into central London in support for those who have suffered life-changing injuries or illness whilst in service. The mass staged ride will take in London's most iconic landmarks on route to the Cenotaph, then Buckingham Palace, then The Mall and culminate at the Horse Guards Parade.

Hero Ride will be the biggest cycling demonstration of national support for the wounded this country has ever seen and its aim is simple – to raise £1 million for Help for Heroes to ensure that those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illness in service get the very best support, for life. For this reason, we recommend you raise £1 for every mile you ride.

Dawn Raid is designed for confident cyclists who enjoy an adventure that comes with night-time riding and thrive in a personal challange. We recommend you sign up if you can put in some quality training and by June 2013 can comfortably average 12-14 mph. While some of our riders will be loyal H4H supporters, we welcome all newcomers, irrespective of their fundraising experience. We’ll teach you all you need to know about fundraising, so all you need is enthusiasm and a love of cycling.
