The Richard Moore Youth Race Series 2025 - Round 2

Closed Circuit , Linlithgow – Tuesday, 13 May 2025

Event Summary

Event Overview

Edinburgh RC, Falkirk Juniors BC, Stirling BC, and West Lothian Clarion are pleased to jointly promote our 5-race series for Youth riders at the West Lothian Cycle Circuit on Tuesday evenings: The Richard Moore Youth Race Series 2025, which is supported by The Cycling Podcast.

Richard Moore co-founded The Cycling Podcast and represented Scotland in the road race at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Richard died suddenly in March 2022 at the age of 48 and this series recognises his contribution to cycling.

He was a big supporter of the West Lothian Cycle Circuit project. The Cycling Podcast and its listeners contributed towards the fundraising effort when the circuit was still in its planning stage, and the profits from the sale of Stacy Snyder’s handmade cups and mugs, created to celebrate the grand tours, were donated towards the circuit.

The monies generated by the sale of Stacy’s cups last season are going towards The Richard Moore Youth Race Series in 2025.

This is the second round of the series. The series will take place on the following Tuesday evenings in 2025:

- Tuesday 22nd April
- Tuesday 13th May
- Tuesday 17th June
- Tuesday 22nd July
- Tuesday 12th August

There will be separate series running for Youth A Open, Youth A Girls, Youth B Open, Youth B Girls, Youth C Open, and Youth C Girls - with the best 4 out of 5 race results counting to the final totals.

There is no series for Youth D.

These races aim to give young riders more exposure to competitive racing, to prepare them for Scottish and British series racing.

These events can only run with the help of parents and volunteers - please contact the organiser to get involved with these grass roots events.

About the Event

Info for Riders

The Richard Moore Youth Race Series recognises Richard’s contribution to cycling.

Lionel Birnie, who together with Richard and Daniel Friebe, founded The Cycling Podcast in 2013, said on behalf of the podcast: ‘We are delighted that The Cycling Podcast, Stacy Snyder and our listeners have been able to contribute towards the continuation of this series.

‘Richard was a big supporter of the plans to build the circuit at Linlithgow and recognised how valuable it would have been had it existed when he was making his way in competitive cycling as a teenager.'

'Contrary to popular belief about sport, winning isn’t everything in cycling. Pinning on a number and challenging yourself is a victory in itself for many of us who’ve never won a race. A strong sport relies on a broad base of participants and competitive cycling is a big part of that. Giving young people a chance to experience the thrill, excitement and challenge of racing on a closed road circuit like the one at Linlithgow is an essential part of attracting people to cycling and keeping them engaged and interested all the way into adulthood.'

This event is open to Youth riders from the whole of Scotland and beyond, and will consist of races for Open and Female riders across the following age categories:

- Youth A (U16s)
- Youth B (U14s)
- Youth C (U12s)
- Youth D (U10s)

Race timings, durations and the split of categories across races are subject to change depending on the number of entries. Instead of one longer race, each age category may have two shorter races or a TT and a crit race.

No entries on the day of the race.

For U10s any bike can be used.
For U12s a road bike is recommended.
All U14 and U16 competitors must use a road bike.

Volunteers will be on hand to ensure all bikes comply with the standard British Cycling gear restrictions.
