Little Lumpy

Cycle Sportive , Haslemere – Sunday, 18 May 2025

Registered Sportive

Event Summary

Event Overview

Little Lumpy has been run as an annual event for over 15 years and continues to be a ‘not-for-profit’ event, with monies raised being distributed between Haslemere Festival and an elected partner charity. We are very pleased to announce that 2025’s partner will be Midhurst Palliative Care. Their team provides clinical treatment and care to manage the symptoms of a life-limiting illness and give patients a good quality of life.

As in previous years, you will be able to enjoy the warm welcome and home baked cakes at the feeding stations around the course. This is only possible due to the dedicated group of volunteers and Haslemere bakers, whose efforts seem to have become legendary, with the tempting selection probably the best to be found at any Cycling Sportive throughout the country. In addition, at the start there will be a free breakfast on offer, comprising tea / coffee plus a bacon butty or equivalent vegetarian option. At the finish, the bar will be open and a hot meal will be available at a small price. So stay and linger to enjoy the company of your new found cycling friends and share your experience of what is one of the top Sportives in the South East of England.

About the Event

Info for Riders

Little Lumpy - Three courses in one.

Sport

40.2 miles (64.7 km) with 3,174ft (966m) of climbing and two feed-stops at South Harting and Lurgashall. Avoids the South Downs but still has a testing climb towards the end.

At South Harting you will wave goodbye to your madder colleagues doing the Challenge and Epic routes as they head off to the first of several climbs over the South Downs. Your route will take you back through the pretty villages of Elsted, Cocking, Lodsworth and Lurgashall, with a testing climb at Blackdown, before finishing at the top of Woolmer Hill.

Challenge

challenge-face.png

69 miles (111.1km) with 4,977ft (1,517m) of climbing, over the South Downs four times and with three feed-stops.

The Challenge follows the same route as the Sport towards South Harting, when along with the Epic, it turns west just before South Harting to join the B2146 after Torberry Hill. The route takes you to Buriton and then continues under the A3 to Oxenbourne, where there is a sharp climb up to Butser Hill. After the feed-stop at Chalton, the route takes you to Finchdean, Rowlands Castle and back to South Harting (feed-stop) via West Marden and Compton. The route back home is via Elsted, Didling, Cocking, Heyshott Green, South Ambersham, Selham, Lodsworth, Lurgashall (feed-stop) and Blackdown.

Epic

epic-face.png

124.7 miles (200.7km) with 8,366ft (2,550m) of climbing, five ascents of the South Downs and four feed-stops.

The route is the same as for the Challenge to Chalton and Rowlands Castle. Then the route continues via Lavant, Westhampnett, Maudlin, Halnaker, Boxgrove, Tangmere, Oving and Westergate. Here we have made major changes from last year, with the route going via Barnham to Walberton where there is a feed-stop. The route then takes you to Fontwell (and the cycle underpass) to Slindon and up over the Downs to Houghton, via Madehurst. The route now continues through Houghton and Amberley Station along the B2139, turning left through Rackham and back to Coldwaltham and then along the A285 to Upwaltham via Duncton Down and then, as before, East Dean, Goodwood, Singleton, West Dean, Chilgrove, East Marden, Compton and back to South Harting. Thereafter, it follows the other routes.
