Event Summary

Event Overview

We would like to invite you to join us on the 5th Chepstow Cycling Club Historic Ride which is raising money for The Trussell Trust, an anti-poverty charity and community of food banks providing practical support to people who can’t afford the essentials, and campaigning for a future where none of us need to use emergency food to get by

The ride commemorates the exploits of the original 19th Century Chepstow Cycling Club, who raced from Beachley Point to a turn on the A466 north of Llancloudy and back.

About the Event

Info for Riders

Our route has been amended slightly to make the start more practical, and to avoid road closures on the A466, but still captures the spirit and some of the challenge of the original route - even more so if you choose to ride it on an Ordinary!

There are two route options: a longer route at 80km / 50 miles, and a shorter one at 50km / 32 miles. Both start from the Chepstow Leisure Centre, heading out along the Itton road, through Trellech, Mitchel Troy, to Monmouth. The longer route takes a loop north of Monmouth to Rockfield, Newcastle, Skenfrith, Llancloudy and back to rejoin the shorter route at Monmouth. Both routes head from Monmouth south along the Wye Valley passing through Redbrook, Tintern and then back to Chepstow Leisure Centre.

There will be a feed stop with cakes, water and coffee at Monmouth at roughly two-thirds distance for the long route and half distance for the short route.

Route files are available on the CCC Ride with GPS account that you can download, and/or use to print cue sheets. Links are below. Direction arrows will be posted at key points along the route to assist navigation.

Because of the need to plan the logistics of the ride, the event is advance tickets only, there will be no entry on the day. Tickets can be bought via the CCC website up until 10PM on Thursday 26th September, after which entries will be closed.

Riders will start in discrete groups between 0900 and 0930, in order to have manageable size groups on the road and have riders finishing at similar times. Riders will be allocated to groups after entries have closed, and the groups and start times will be published in the week preceding the ride.
