Event Overview

Event Overview

This event is a three-distance road ride, the longest route will be 120 Kms , the traditional 100km distance and a shorter 70 km route, all rides will feature some of the iconic Chiltern Hills, the long route will be a tough ride, lots of hills to challenge you and as only a month before Ride London will be an ideal preparation ride. The route takes you through the undulating terrain of the Chiltern Hills via Chesham, Gt Missenden, Stokenchurch, Gt Kingshill and The Chalfonts with some steep climbs thrown in for good measure.

The event will be limited in terms of numbers with a maximum field of 200 riders. the routes will be signposted, and GPS files will be available and sent to all entered riders.

This will be a ride to test yourself over the distance, there will be 1 food stop where there will be the chance to fill up a water bottle and grab a gel/energy bar. There will be tea/Coffee and cake at the HQ for pre and post event carbs and refreshments. For those in need of further sustenance along the route you will find a couple of country pubs, village stores and a coffee shop for any extra fuel.

This event has now been run for the last 14 years with people complementing the event for the friendly atmosphere and well-marked challenging route.

Once again, we will be starting the event at the Chiltern Sports and Social Club, Maple Lodge , Maple Cross which is easily accessible from the M25 /M40, where there is plenty of car parking, showers, catering and access to a licensed bar.

Over the years we have made a donation to charity for each rider from our events and over the years the benefactors of these donations have been the South Bucks Riding for the disabled, The Dogs Trust- Harefield and the British Heart Foundation. In 2024 we intend to again donate to the BHF.

Riders will start in groups of 6 to 10 riders and there will be 3 times to aim for in each distance as a challenge for those riding, riders are welcome to start with entered club mates/friends.

About the Event

Info for Riders

The ride routes will be available to be downloaded via a GPX file to those pre entered and the route will be fully sign-posted and instructions will also be available at the HQ. Hot drinks/energy products/refreshments will be available both pre and post the ride.

There will be one feed stop which will provide water/gels or bars and hopefully some of the legendary homemade flap jack

The GPX routes will be sent out to all pre entered riders on the Thursday before the event once online entry has closed.

Given the time of the year weather can still be unpredictable and thus this can affect road conditions, please take this into account.

Riders are expected to follow the rules of the road.

Groups of riders will be set out to try and keep riders of a similar ability together and the number of riders starting together will adhere to the current BC regulations.

Everyone should ensure that they and their bikes are in condition for such as a ride as this, however there will be a sag wagon which will sweep the course at the end of the ride to assist anyone with terminal mechanical failure.

There will be some spot prizes handed out to finishers.

As well as the official feeding station there are opportunities to refuel throughout the ride with a number of shops on the route.

The route is primarily on B roads, with small stretches of lanes and quiet A roads with most of the hills in the last half of the ride.

There is car parking at the HQ, as well as catering, toilets and showers and we are negotiating for the licensed bar at the HQ to be open.

Please remember this is not a race and we do share the public roads with other members of the public so please ride sensibly and within the rules of the road, obeying all traffic signals.

Please follow the instructions of the marshals when parking.

Please refrain from disposing of rubbish such as gel wrappers whilst riding.

Any riders wishing to move routes after entering can at the well-marked split points do so, just please let us know if you do so we can adjust the standard times.

Although there will be a sag wagon this will be for terminal mechanical breakdowns, and it is expected that riders will carry as a minimum 2 spare tubes and a /pump

Any updates on the event will be on the clubs facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/557235464401072/ /or any other info please e-mail the organizer at chris'westdraytonmbc.co.uk.
